hsiao yao wan, free and easy

XIAO YAO WAN also known as FREE & EASY - RELAXED WANDERER - RAMBLING POWDER - HSIAO YAO SAN - 逍遥片

Free & Easy Pill, also known as Rambling Powder, Relaxed Wanderer, Hsiao Yao Wan, Hsiao Yao San, or Xiao Yao San, was first published in the Imperial Grace Formulary of the Tai Ping era (1078-1085 AD).

When under stress, qi (energy) tightens in your chest. This protective reaction is triggered by by events in our life or events in our memory.

Free & Easy Pill also available as the patent medicine, Hsiao Yao Wan, reduces feelings of stress by helping to release tension in the chest. Based on a 900 year old formula, It uses natural substances to relieve chest constraint and to promote the free flow of Qi in the chest.

Other ways to release stress in the chest include breathing and yogic techniques, massage, forcefull crying, and upper body excercise. Expressive use of the hands stimulates the channels that nourish the chest, so that activities as varied as gardening, giving massage, swimming the breast stroke, and playing basketball can offer relief.

The chief combination is Bupleurum (chai hu) and a small amount of Mint; which powerfully spread the qi of the chest (Liver Qi). This relieves emotional constraint and often depression. It also helps increase the nourishing and cleansing flows of qi and blood to the breasts, as well as to the upper and middle organs

Other herbs in the formula, such as Dang Gui and White Peony (bai shao), build deficient Liver Blood. The rest of the formula (Licorice, ginger, atractylodes) aid digestion and increase formula absorbtion.

Popular variations include Jia Wei Xiao Yao Wan, which adds herbs to clear the heat which often results from stagnation; and Long Gu Muli Xiao Yao Wan, which adds calcium rich fossil bone and oyster shell to Settle the Spirit.

This formula can also be used together with other herbs or formulae when stress or Liver heat is an aggrevating factor such as stress induced headache, eye problems, digestive ills, sinus complaints, menstrual or menopausal problems, or hypertension.

The formula is generally considered safe during pregnancy or nursing.
